Event Summary:
Latin America occupies a unique position in the carbon market as the largest generator of CERs (Carbon Emission Reduction Credits) per capita in the world. Whilst there is a lot of activity in Brazil and Mexico, there is a considerably smaller flow of projects in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Honduras, Ecuador, Peru and Guatemala. Countries such as Venezuela and Belize have yet to discover their potential.
Carbon Markets Americas will bring local project developers together with the key investors and carbon credit buyers to really drive this market forward. Big technological barriers have been overcome and expertise has grown in the favored project areas, such as landfill methane and agricultural. However as the low hanging fruits have been harvested, project developers are now looking elsewhere to generating their credits and renewable energy projects are on the rise.
As Latin America is finding new ways to capitalize on the CDM, investors are looking to extend their geographical portfolios and decrease methodological risks through diversity. Now in its fourth year, Carbon Markets Americas will once again return to Sao Paulo and move to bigger premises to accommodate the region’s demand. The conference and exhibition will provide an excellent meeting point for all players in the carbon market value chain, to network with project developers and meet potential clients from the region.
